About the work
We were on vacation in the Ardennes and had the painting supplies with us. I made this portrait, and then two orange butterflies came to us. They first flew around a bit, and then one sat on my wife's arm, and the other sat on my arm. And they stayed there. When we stood up from our chairs, they sat on the armrests of our chairs and stayed there for at least 10 minutes. I found that very special, and for that reason, the idea arose to let the butterfly sit on the shoulder of this beautiful woman.
